A Family Business

Foundations

From the snowbanks of Alaska to Hawaii, Dartmouth College, and finally the sugar-white sands of Florida's Emerald Coast, Tim and Montie Martin always carried with them the promise of the American Dream and a shared determination to build a life – and a business – on their own terms. They believed deeply in the power of words, the freedom to pursue meaningful work, and the idea that helping others tell their stories was itself a worthwhile calling.

Early Days

American Editorial Services was founded in 1989 and operated from a dedicated office within the family home where Tim and Montie raised their two daughters. It was a place filled with manuscripts, commercial printers, and the steady rhythm of creative work, where authors from across the Southeast, Midwest, and as far away as Kuwait entrusted AES to help shape fiction and nonfiction manuscripts into finished books. For our family, American Editorial Services wasn't simply where business happened – it was part of everyday life.

Looking Ahead

The world of publishing – and the tools available to today's authors – has changed dramatically since AES was founded more than three decades ago. What hasn't changed is the belief that every story deserves thoughtful guidance and every author deserves an advocate. We continue the work my parents began by pairing today's publishing expertise with the same commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and helping others bring meaningful ideas into the world.
